On September 21st, 2017, Girls With Sole Founder/CEO, Liz Ferro, received the Community Changemaker Award at the Third Annual Shine The Light To End Sexual Violence event, presented by The Ohio Alliance To End Sexual Violence. The event was held at the Fawcett Center at Ohio State University and celebrated many amazing people who dedicate their lives to eradicating the world of Sexual Violence.
Through her organization, Girls With Sole, she touches the lives of girls who are at-risk or have been abused in Greater Cleveland, most of them from underserved communities, by helping them discover their worth – and their inner athlete. We’re happy to announce Liz Ferro as the 2017 Community Changemaker Award recipient!
It was Girls With Sole’s utmost privilege to be included as an Honoree at the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Founder’s Day Celebration: “Mission Matters: Community Organizations With A Progressive Outlook.”
To be honored by these amazing women – whose mission has been “service to all mankind” for over 100 years -was deeply moving and meaningful.
We sincerely thank them for recognizing Girls With Sole – and for all the generous work they do to improve lives in our city, state, nation- and around the world!
Girls With Sole is extremely honored to be included in the Class of 2016 for the Medical Mutual and Smart Business Pillar Award for Community Service. Founder, CEO, and Executive Director, Liz Ferro, received the Nonprofit Executive Director of the Year Award.
Girls With Sole is both humbled and grateful for being recognized by Medical Mutual and Smart Business. This award is truly about the girls we serve and the people who support our organization.
It was an honor to speak at the 19th Annual Stark County Domestic Violence Collaborative Seminar, but it was an even bigger honor to receive this thank you note from the Stark County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office regarding my presentation.
It’s both humbling and inspiring to read:
“You renewed our energy for our jobs. Your message has motivated us to continue our work to keep victims safe and offenders accountable.”
During the darkest times of my life, no one would have ever guessed I could make a difference anywhere, or motivate another person with my words or actions.
It’s an honor for me to be able to spread Girls With Sole’s message, and to emphasize the fact that we can’t dismiss or write off our troubled youth. There is almost always a reason why they are troubled. With programs like Girls With Sole – which utilize a curriculum to strengthen and encourage healthy living (mind, body and soul) through fitness, wellness, self-awareness and resilience building – lives can be changed for the better, and we can remove the stigma attached to abuse of any kind.
